Sioux Falls State Theatre

John Swedeen, president
State Theatre Company Board

The State Theatre will reopen at a date that has yet to be determined. You can count on it being a multi-purpose facility designed for the enjoyment of everyone in the community. Films, artistic performances, business conferences and social gatherings are among the expected uses.

The building has been saved, and a lot of restoration work has been done. However, work remains in the auditorium, stage and balcony areas. The pace of the restoration is tied to the pace of donations.

The State Theatre Company is working quietly right now to raise money to complete the project. Fundraising efforts will become more visible soon.

You might have noticed the new digital signs on the Marquee. They went live with electronic messages in September. Our intent is to provide timely information about community activities as well as fundraising news.

You also might have noticed that the building has hosted some special events recently, including the first movie showing in 26 years. Cinema Falls presented the silent film “The General” as a fundraiser to a sold-out audience on Oct. 8. It was great fun.

During another festive event, the Parade of Lights on Nov. 25, more than 300 people stopped by for hot chocolate.

On Feb. 26, for the first time ever, the State Theatre Company’s annual Stars, Statues and the State fundraising gala will be held at the theatre. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres and a live telecast of the Academy Awards.

Keep an eye on the Marquee, as well as this website, for more news about community events and other information about the State Theatre. There’s a lot of excitement to come!
