It’s Time for the State!

The new signs will give us the opportunity to talk to the community in a fun and informative way. It is our gift to the city. We will be able to promote arts, entertainment and other events and tie them into the growing cultural and business vitality of the downtown area. We’ll also be able to talk about the progress of the restoration of the State Theatre and other civic projects.

Any arts and community events can be featured. Soon a process will be underway, online, for those who wish to submit their event for review.

Although significant progress has been made in recent years in saving the long-closed State Theatre, no reopening date has been scheduled. More work needs to be done before the facility will be ready for public use.

“The work that has been done so far is of the highest and utmost quality. We’re going to continue do this job right, no matter how long it takes,” John Swedeen, board president, said. “We want to provide Sioux Falls with a first-class, multi-use facility that is accessible to everyone in the community and again will be a source of pride.”

Plans call for using the restored theatre as a multi-purpose facility for film, arts, and performance and community events.

We raised more than $3 million from the community and put the money directly into the theatre. We rebuilt the infrastructure including new electrical, mechanical and a new roof with state-of-the-art systems and completely restored the lobby, concession stand and bathrooms. Fundraising will continue so that work on the auditorium, stage and balcony can be completed.
