Sioux Falls State Theatre

State Theatre Company

Welcome to the State Theatre’s new home page!

Please check out the wonderful photographs, fascinating historic tidbits and other cool features of our recently improved website, and revisit this page from time to time. We’ll keep you updated on the progress that our nonprofit company is making in restoring the luster of the State Theatre, the last jewel in the crown of historic downtown Sioux Falls.

Tremendous advances have been made in recent years in preserving and renovating the theatre, which opened in 1926 and closed in 1990. More than $3 million has been spent in recent years to replace and upgrade key infrastructure and to restore parts of the building, including the lobby, foyer and main bathrooms. Now, on to the fun phase of the project: renovating the auditorium, stage and balcony.

Tax-deductible donations to the State Theatre are welcome.

Our journey to reopen continues. No date for a formal reopening has been scheduled, and we’re not going to rush to set one. It’s more important that we do the job right. We don’t want to let this magnificent building ever slip into jeopardy again.

We want the entire community to be proud of the State Theatre again. We think you’ll be pleased by the results.
